13 Most Powerful Chainsaw Man Characters

The Chainsaw Man anime is packed with lots of action, gore, bloodshed, and dark comedy.

It involves Devil Hunters, a group of individuals who fight against powerful devils whenever they threaten the world’s peace.

However, their relationship with devils is more complex than one may think. While most Devil Hunters are driven by their hatred towards the Devils, they usually make a pact or contract with Devils to become more powerful.

Our Protagonists, Denji and Pochita, battle some of the most potent devils and other Devil Hunters, who were once his friends throughout the series.

Below is our list of the most powerful characters in Chainsaw Man who either wanted to kill Denji or protect him.

13. Eternity Devil

Eternity Devil

Abilities: Pocket Reality Creation

The Eternity Devil manifests the fear of eternity or infinity. In the manga, Denji and other members of Special Division 4 encounter the Eternity Devil on the eighth floor of a hotel.

As they tried to make their way out, the team realized they were trapped on that floor, with all the rooms linked to each other in an infinite loop.

The Eternity Devil can create a 3-dimensional space that is completely isolated from the rest of the world, and even time has effectively stopped. Once inside, it is almost impossible to escape from this pocket space.

According to the devil, this isolated space is its “stomach.”

The environment inside this space is constructed in such a way that every door leads to identical rooms with the same elements. This can cause those who are trapped inside to die of hunger and thirst.

Moreover, the Eternity Devil can exponentially grow its body to hunt down enemies trapped inside. During its fight with Special Division 4, the Eternity Devil inflicted severe injuries on Denji.

It took three days of nonstop fighting for Denji to ultimately defeat the Eternity Devil.

12. Reze – The Bomb Fiend

Reze - Bomb Devil

Abilities: Self detonation, Explosion creation, Nigh Immortality

When Reze was introduced, she was just an ordinary, hardworking schoolgirl whom Denji had a crush on. But who would have thought she’d be later revealed as one of the most dangerous hybrids in the Chainsaw Man?

Reze, also known as Lady Reze, is the Bomb hybrid from the Soviet Union and was sent to Japan to steal Denji’s heart. She is the main antagonist in Bomb Devil Arc.

Reze can transform into her devil form by pulling the pin on her neck that cause herself to explode. She can also use this technique to distract her opponents. Instead of transforming, Reze can leave behind a decoy body to detonate bombs remotely.

Reze can use her body parts to create endless amounts of explosives, which are powerful enough to hurt fiends and hybrids and can obliterate buildings.

In her hybrid form, Reze becomes far more durable. She can not only withstand powerful attacks from enemies without taking any damage, as shown by her fight against Galgali or the Violence Fiend, but also come out virtually unscathed from her own explosions.

11. Aki Hayakawa (Later Gun Fiend)

Aki HayakawaDenji meets Aki

Abilities: Precognition (ability to see a few seconds into the future)

Aki Hayakawa is a steadfast and intelligent Devil hunter who has the ability to get through almost any hostile situation. Though he can be ruthless and intimidating, Aki has a soft spot for people he trusts, including Denji and Power.

As an expert swordsman, Aki is skilled enough to keep up with physically stronger opponents such as hybrids. He can easily defeat multiple zombies at once. Aki is also remarkably tough as he was able to survive attacks from Ghost Devil and Darkness Devil.

Aki’s fighting abilities are further enhanced by his devil contracts. After falling out with the Fox Devil, he made a contract with the Future Devil, gaining the ability to see a few seconds into the future.

It allowed Aki to predict his opponent’s next attacks accurately. With precognition, he was able to dodge Reze’s rapid explosions and even blocked Quanxi’s attack (though he was still knocked out).

Later, when he became the Gun Fiend, Aki was able to take apart Denji quite easily with his precision and speed.

10. Power – Blood Fiend

Abilities: Blood Manipulation, Blood Empowerment

Power is a Blood Fiend and an important support character in Chainsaw Man. She was once part of Makima’s experimental squad – Tokyo Special Division 4, alongside Kishibe, Denji, and Aki Hayakawa.

Despite being extremely selfish and greedy, Power developed a close bond with Denji and even considered him a friend.

In a fight, Power can manipulate blood and use it to her advantage. She can also use her blood to create weapons, including a giant hammer, to strike her opponents.

Moreover, she can spawn a barrage of swords and spears to attack her enemies. This technique is powerful enough to slow down even Makima for a few seconds.

But what makes Power a dangerous opponent for anyone is her ability to gain insane amounts of power from consuming blood. Drinking too much blood, or the blood of a higher-ranked Devil, can increase her powers by multifold.

9. Katana Man

Special Abilities: Hybrid Transformation, Nigh-Immortality

Katana Man is one of the most powerful hybrids in Chainsaw Man, who serves as the main antagonist of the Katana Man Arc in the Public Safety Saga.

Katana Man is quite similar to Chainsaw Man himself in appearance. After transforming, he gains multiple blades – one for each arm and another one extending from his forehead.

Katana Man is one of the most skilled swordsmen in Chainsaw Man, as he was able to overpower both Denji and Aki with his formidable slashes.

What separates Katana Man from Denji is the former’s much more refined and disciplined sword-fighting technique. He is undoubtedly a better dualist than Denji.

During fights, Katana Man uses ‘iaijutsu’ – a Japanese quick-draw sword technique that allows him to strike his opponents at incredible speeds. Even Denji doesn’t seem to have a counter to this attack.

8. The Hell Devil

Hell Devil

Abilities: Hell Connection

The Hell Devil, as the name suggests, manifests the fear of hell. It is one of the most terrifying entities in the Chainsaw Man that can drag people directly to the fiery pits of hell.

Apart from the fact that it can make contracts with humans, nothing much is known about the Hell Devil.

The devil has made a contract with Santa Clause in exchange for her three children and a perfect doll. It also has a contract with the Kishibe-led Anti-Makima Squad, which uses this ability to send its targets to hell by sacrificing themselves.

When summoned, the Hell Devil emerges from the sky in the shape of a large hand with six fingers. In its intact form, the Hell Devil appears as a centaur with its body covered in burning flesh.

7. Quanxi

Quanxi

Special Powers: Hybrid Transformation, Immortality, body regeneration

Quanxi is a hybrid devil hunter who boasts enormous strength and can easily overpower almost any foe, whether it is human, fiend, or devil. She is often referred to as the ‘First Devil Hunter.’

Even in her human form, she was able to evade multiple devil hunters and manage to cut through a dozen dolls created by Doll Devil without breaking a sweat.

Another instance that displayed her insane strength is when she was able to cut down three other hybrids (one transformed) before they could even react.

In terms of battle experience, Quanxi is on par with a veteran devil hunter like Kishibe. While describing the true extent of her powers, Kishibe said that if Qunaxi engaged in a fistfight with every human on the planet, she would still win without her hybrid powers.

Quanxi becomes almost invincible in her hybrid form. After the transformation, she gains bow shaped attachments on both her arms that can shoot powerful arrows that can destroy enemies within seconds. Being a hybrid also makes her immortal.

6. Kishibe

Kishibe Denji and Power meets Kishibe

Skills: Hand-to-hand combat and knifeman-ship

Kishibe is a veteran devil hunter and one of the most powerful characters in Chainsaw Man. He has the experience and the skills to fight toe-to-toe against most fiends and hybrids.

Kishibe is contracted to at least three devils, including Needle, Knife, and Claw Devils, making him a dangerous opponent. According to Makime, he is the strongest devil hunter of the Tokyo Special Division 4.

The veteran Devil Hunter boasts superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes. While training them, Kishibe was able to dodge attacks by Denji and Power, including a spear attack from very close range.

He could break Power’s blood weapons with just bare hands and incapacitate them over and over before they could even react.

5. Santa Claus

Santa Claus

Special Powers: Regeneration, Devil Transformation

Santa Claus, contrary to what the name signifies, is an enigmatic and sinister being who creates an army of doll assassins and controls them to do her bidding.

She can convert anyone, whether humans, fiends, or hybrids, into her puppets with just a touch. One of her perfect dolls is an elderly man from Germany known as ‘Santa Claus of Germany.’

The true extent of her powers can be gauged by the fact that she is contracted with Curse, Hell, and Darkness Devils.

In exchange for bringing Chainsaw Man to hell, the Darkness Devil offered Santa a piece of his flesh, which made her nearly unbeatable.

With Darkness Devil’s powers, Santa could create more resilient and enhanced dolls to fight her enemies. She can now turn fiends (and possibly hybrids) into her dolls as well. Santa also gained the ability to instantly heal fatal injuries just by being under the darkness.

Both Makima and Kishibe consider Santa Claus as the biggest threat to Denji’s survival.

4. Gun Devil

Devil Abilities: Bullet projection, bullet flesh

The Gun Devil is undoubtedly one of the most intimidating and potent antagonists in Chainsaw Man. It personifies humanity’s fear of guns. Ironically, it was born due to the widespread use of firearms to fight devils.

It is a wicked and ruthless entity with no concern for anything other than itself.

While we’ll never know how the devil would look in its complete form, the fragmented Gun Devil carries several assault rifles that are attached to both of its limbs.

The Gun Devil is unimaginably fast, as it was able to gun down more than a million people in different countries across the world. It can also fire bullets with great precision and accuracy.

Even after transforming into a much weaker Gun Fiend (Aki Hayakawa), it retained that speed and accuracy.

3. Denji – Chainsaw Man/Devil

Denji and Pochita

Special Abilities: Hybrid, Devil transformation, Immortality

Our protagonist, Denji, is not one of those straightforward good guys we usually see in other popular anime series. He is rude, arrogant, and often motivated by his selfish desires.

But his willingness to save those who are in danger shows us that he is actually kind-hearted and has empathy towards others.

After being fused with Pochita (the Chainsaw Devil), Denji gained the ability to transform into a bloodthirsty and ruthless Chainsaw Man. Denji can transform into two forms –

Hybrid form—By pulling the cord on his chest, Denji can transform into a hybrid devil and manifest chainsaws from his head, arms, and legs.

These chainsaws can cut through nearly anything from Devil’s flesh and limbs to concrete and other materials. Denji is powerful enough to defeat most devils in this form.

Full Devil form – Denji is perhaps the most lethal in his full devil form. In this form, Pochita takes full control of Chainsaw Man’s body, which is now bigger and covered with armored plates.

In full devil form, Chainsaw Man can easily defeat multiple hybrid devils.

When it comes to fighting, Denji might lack proper training and experience, but his tenacious personality and ingenuity allow him to outwit even the most powerful foes.

2. Makima – Control Devil

Abilities: Control and Force manipulation

Makima is undoubtedly one of the most powerful characters in Chainsaw Man. She is a devil disguised as a human – as opposed to a human contracted to a devil, she is a devil herself.

As the Control Devil, Makima has a supernatural ability to manipulate and control her subordinates, whether it’s humans, hybrids, fiends, or Devils.

It is shown that she controlled Angel, Snake, Punishment, and Zombie Devils to do her bidding. However, her control can be broken by the victims.

Makima can inflict damage upon its enemies by manipulating an invisible force. By simply pointing out a finger, she was able to kill Power in an instant and able to injure the Darkness Devil. She can even use this ability to crush her targets over long distances.

Although she is rarely seen fighting, Makima is an extreamly skilled hand-to-hand fighter and posseses insane physical strength. She was able to overpower a weakened Pochita with her fighting abilities.

1. Darkness Devil

Devil Abilities: Immortality, manipulation

Weakness: Light

The Darkness Devil is a Primal Devil that embodies the ‘Primal Fear’ of darkness. Primal Devils are believed to be as old as humanity itself and immensely powerful. They are also unkillable, as affirmed by the Falling Devil.

As the Darkness Devil, it can manipulate darkness to expand its domain. It can conjure a large black sword that can be controlled telekinetically. It can also eliminate foes instantly.

Like Makima, the Darkness Devil also possesses force manipulation powers. It can dismember or completely obliterate its targets just by pointing at them.

However, the Darkness Devil’s manipulation powers appear to be less powerful than those of the Control Devil.

A glimpse of Darkness Devil’s true powers can be witnessed when Santa Claus becomes overpowered and more devilish after consuming Darkness Devil’s flesh.
