Top 10 Coolest Robot Designs in the World

Robotics is a part of technology that deals with construction and operation of smart machines. Robots are built to make our life simple through automation. The first automated digital robot, the Unimate, was built in 1961 to carry the hot metal pieces from a die casting machine. Now most of the robots are used in some mega-factories but few are also designed as to work as humans. A few robots are capable to move like human and consciousness to a certain level. These robots will surely have a major impact on the future of the world’s industry. Most of today’s robots are inspired by the nature. From nanobots to unmanned robots, there are many mind blowing robotic designs around us. The following list compiles ten coolest robot designs in the world.

10. da Vinci Surgical System

The da Vinci surgical system is a robotic surgical system made by Intuitive Surgical, an American company. The reason behind its name is that Italian thinks that Leonardo da Vinci invented the first robot. It is designed to handle complex surgeries and is controlled by a surgeon from a console. It is commonly used for prostatectomies and gynecologic surgeries. Over 200,000 surgeries were conducted only in 2012 and this system costs under $2 million.

9. BigDog

BigDog is a quadruped robot created by Boston Dynamics along with NASA and Harvard University. In military all soldiers have to carry much heavy equipment along with them so they created for the ease of soldiers. It looks like a dog, that’s why known as a big dog. It consists of a fiber optic gyroscope and an IMU which helps it to stand on difficult terrains and inclined up to 45 degrees. It is capable of running at over 6 km/h while carrying 150 kg on it.

Cubestormer III is a Rubik’s cube solving robot, developed by Lego Mindstorms and ARM architecture. On 15th March 2014, it broke the previous record of fastest solving the Rubik’s cube. The previous record is set by Cubestormer II of 5.27 seconds and it set new Guinness World Record of 3.253 seconds. The robot controls the cube using the four robotic hands. Now both the developers are trying to beat their own record again.
