Space exploration is one of the most important ongoing discoveries to know more about past and future. On 20th July 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. In the early days, many space exploration technologies were failed due to feeble and vulnerable technologies. Over the last few years, lots of advancements have been made in the space exploration. There are many projects which are under development. Most of the basic information is gathered from space satellites and now NASA is trying to make more advance technology. Here is the list of future space technologies which will used by the space exploration agencies in the future.

Space exploration team goes on a limited time mission due to limited food. Now the NASA’s scientists are looking for ways to grow food on space shuttles while exploring the space. The Aeroponic planting system is a high performance planting system which eliminates substrates and the need of large nutrients which reduces the pathogen transmission. Aeroponics crops would be grown from special crops which absorb more minerals and vitamins. There are many other advantages of Aeroponics like it will produce efficient and high quality food in space.

6. Asteroid Mining

Asteroid mining technology includes exploring raw materials from asteroids and other planets. Space shuttles mined from asteroids and take back to the earth or used in space for construction material. Many different types of materials could be mined including iron, nickel, precious metal- titanium, water, hydrogen and oxygen. As the growing consumption in everything in developing countries, it has been suggested that platinum and other valuable minerals may be mined and sent back to earth for solar powered satellites. Scientists categorized the asteroids into three major categories (C type, M type and S type) according to the materials found on them.

Without rocket or space rocket is a space launch system where the alternate launching system has been used. Using today’s technology, over $10,000 is spent on launching only one kilogram of materials to low earth orbit. Most of the space program cost is spent on the launching. If the launch cost can be made cheaper, the overall cost will be reduced automatically. Scientists made a way in which they provide a small amount of speed to the low earth orbit. There are three types of projectile launchers including electrical, mechanical and chemical. All three types include different technologies. This concept is still under huge development.

4. Metallic Hydrogen Fuel

Metallic hydrogen is a stage of hydrogen in which it behaves as an electrical conductor which is produced under high pressure. It is unable to produce it in the laboratory as it needs hundreds of gigapascasls of pressure. At high pressure, hydrogen found in liquid form and the interior of Jupiter and Saturn are the best examples of it. In future, this is the best fuel which has water as an end product if burned in pure oxygen. It might have more than five times the efficiency of liquid hydrogen which is used in the spacecraft. Now, scientists are working on this project to make this fuel real on earth.

3. Alternate Powered Rocket (Anti-matter, microwave, sun)

Normally a spacecraft use bio-propellant or solid fuel and these fuels have lots of weight which weighs them down. If the fuel becomes anti-matter, the launch system needs less fuel but this technology is still under consideration. The other propulsion method includes microwave and sun powered rockets. In microwave powered system, the spacecraft gets energy from the station at the earth’s surface. The biggest and free source of energy is the sun. NASA’s scientists are working on efficient usage of this source of energy.

As the population increases, the need of electricity is also increasing and there are only limited resources available on the earth. Now the space agencies are researching on space materials that can be used on earth. Space based solar power is a technology of collecting solar power materials in space. Scientists have been working on this project since the 1970s and this project is still in progress. The benefits of such projects include efficient use of the environment and at the night time in space. This project has many advantages including more energy stored in space as compared to the surface of the earth because there is no air and interfering objects.

Space manufacturing is the production of goods in an environment condition outside the earth’s atmosphere. This technology is expected to be very beneficial for our future. It also has many advantages over earth based manufacturing including a different environment where raw materials can be available in abundant quantity and there is no risk of environmental damage. Construction in space may require completely autonomous robots to perform as labor or a human crew may perform action with all safety. The NASA’s scientists have already started food printing using 3D printers in space for astronauts.
